Are you constantly on the hunt for cute casual mom outfits? I’ve got you covered with some tips and a list of my favorite places to shop.
After I became a mom, my style game was on point. I had lost so much weight from breastfeeding and was completely feeling myself. Once I stopped breastfeeding I needed to get into the gym to keep the weight off but that wasn’t a priority for me. After having Tristan, I completely dropped the ball. The stress of my being a NICU mom coupled with not being able to breastfeed really did a number on me. Exclusively pumping is hard and not something that I ever expected I would need to do. The pounds were piling on quicker that I knew what to do with. Then after losing Tristan, my health started to suffer and that was when I really started to gain more weight.
Recently I’ve been working towards changing how I think and feel about myself. I want to feel more confident when I leave the house. Honestly, I think this is something that a lot of moms struggle with. After having our babies we put our kids first. Our self care goes out of the window and we forget all about ourselves. I’ve seen it happen in myself and in my friends and family.
Have you ever heard someone say “if you look good, you feel good”? It’s totally true. Wearing cute casual mom outfits that take little effort to put together can help you feel more confident when walking out the door.
Tips for Picking Cute Casual Mom Outfits
1. Wear what makes you feel comfortable
The number one thing to remember when picking outfits is to wear what makes you feel the most comfortable. Do you love wearing jeans, maxi dresses, or a-line skirts? When shopping, stick to buying what you know you’ll wear the most. There’s nothing wrong with stepping outside of your comfort zone once in a while but if you want the most bang for your buck stick to your usual pieces.
2. Pick shapes and silhouettes that compliment your body shape
Do you know what your body shape is? Finding out what your shape is and what silhouettes look best on your body type will make a whole world of difference.
3. Find some inspiration
Before I pick out my outfits for the week, I look for inspiration. Pinterest is always my go-to source. Create a few boards where you can save looks for every season and mood. I have an inspiration board for spring and summer as well as fall and winter. It’ll keep you from staring into your closet for hours before having to get ready.
4. Plan ahead
Planning ahead is what I like to call my saving grace. If I didn’t plan ahead it would take me twice as long to get ready every day. I like to pick my outfits out when I’m doing laundry. It’s the quickest and easiest way for me to do things. All of my clothes are clean and laid out right there in front of me. I pair the looks together keeping in mind everything that I need to do for the week. If I have a photoshoot, I make sure to pick out all of my outfits for that as well. I pick out everything down to the shoes and the accessories. Planning out your outfits in advance can make your mornings less hectic.
5. Make a list
After you’ve picked out all your outfits, make a list. This step is totally optional but I’m super forgetful so lists help me tremendously. I keep a list on a white board of the outfits I’m going to wear for the week along with the shoes, accessories, and sometimes how I’m going to wear my hair.
6. Invest in elevated staples
I shared before my favorite timeless wardrobe essentials but you should invest in trendy, staple pieces as well. These staples can elevate any simple look. Think about cardigans with eye-catching buttons, a blazer with detailed cuffs, or a button down shirt with embroidery.
7. Think about accessories
Of course you’re never going to leave your house without your purse or shoes but what about the other accessories? Think about adding statement earrings, a scarf or a belt.
8. Your hair matters
I can’t tell you how many mamas neglect their hair when putting a look together. Your hair plays a major part in pulling your entire look together. Mom buns are cute but try something like this easy everyday hairstyle to switch it up.
9. Remember the rule of three
Have you ever heard of the rule of three? You’ll love it! If you remember nothing else from this list of tips, remember the rule of three. It’s simple: use at least three pieces to put together any look. A top, bottom, and a third piece. The third piece can be something like a belt, a scarf, or a broach. It can be anything that will help make your look more polished and put together.
10. Wear layers
I always used to try and avoid wearing skirts when I was out in public with my kids in case I had to do any bending or chasing the kids. The key to pulling off skirts when you’re out with kids is wearing shorts underneath. Biker shorts have become my favorite for layering.
11. Choose the right shoes
I love a good low heel. They are perfect for everything. When I’m going out and I want to wear heels, these are always what I reach for first. I always keep a pair of stilettos in my car in case I have an impromptu date night with my husband or girls night out.

I want to do something for me this summer, so I am thinking about buying some cute clothes that will improve my confidence. I like that you say to first find clothes that are comfortable. This way I am more likely to wear the clothing all of the time. Plus, cute and comfy is a win-win.
