What is a Cricut and what does it do? I’m answering everything you need to know about their machines. This post is sponsored by Cricut. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
What is a Cricut?
A Cricut is a cutting machine. That’s the short answer. Their machines are computer controlled cutting machine that allows you to make so many things. There are a few different models of machines: Maker, Joy, and Explore Air 2.
Deciding which one is best for you definitely depends on the type of projects you’re wanting to create.
What does a Cricut machine do?
I’ve had my Cricut machine for a few years now and am completely in love with it. With a Cricut, you can cut and create multiple materials including vinyl, paperboard, cardstock, and more. I’ve made cards, t-shirts and party supplies. I love that with my Cricut the possibilities are endless. I’m able to craft almost any project I can think of without my fingers cramping from making scissor cute or writing notes in handmade cards.
Some of the machines like the Cricut Maker can cut through thin wood, fabric and more.
You can easily create projects in Cricut’s free Design Space software from your computer (MAC or Windows), smartphone or tablet. There are thousands of pre-made templates, images, and fonts to use.

Cricut Joy
This is the newest and smallest cutting machine from the lineup. It’s size makes it portable and makes it perfect for small spaces. You can make tons of projects with the Cricut Joy like stickers, cards and more. The Joy, however, has the least cutting capabilities of all 3 machines. If you’re not as frequent as a crafter but make the occasional project, this might be a great option.
Air Explore 2
An Air Explore 2 was the first machine I ever bought. It introduced me to all of the possibilities that could be made. My very first project was a back to school tote bag made with iron on vinyl. With an Air Explore 2 you can cut vinyl, cardstock, paperboard and other materials.
Maker
The Cricut Maker is the holy grail of cutting machines. You can cut the most materials with a Maker. I’ve made placemats, felt table centerpieces, Christmas garland, t-shirts, coasters and so many other projects with it. If you craft and create often, this is the machine for you!
If you’re a consistent crafter, I highly suggest investing in a Cricut Maker. It’s such a great investment for your craft room. If you’re wanting to give one as a gift for a crafter in your life, it’s the perfect gift.
