It’s 2018. I don’t know about you but this year has been all about leveling up for me. If you remember in the beginning of the year, I wrote a post about my plans for the year and it’s been going so well. This year I’m all about being happy and enjoying life as it is. Being a mom, I wear so many hats and sometimes I need to remind myself that I have a sweet little girl looking up to me. She watches my every move so I constantly need to be aware of that. I’m working on becoming a better person and becoming whole again, and while I know that will be hard and take time I’m still working at it. If you’re a mama like me and you want to figure out how to live your best life here are some tips for you.
10 Tips For How to Live Your Best Life
1. Surround yourself with people who genuinely love and care for you.
This was something that I learned the hard way especially since I’ve been a blogger. Blogging takes a toll on you. Sometimes you have to learn how to take a break and unwind with your loved ones. Surround yourself with people who will root for you even when you’re feeling down. A good tribe can keep you going and winning.
2. Do something that makes you happy every single day.
One of the things that I’ve started doing this year is taking the time to do something for myself every day. It doesn’t have to be anything big. Something as simple as taking a long bath in peace and quiet counts. From time to time, I’ll take myself shopping to buy a new top or a pair of shoes like my new favorite chucks.
3. Know that you can’t please everyone.
THIS! I stopped trying to please everybody years ago. The older I get, the more I realize that I don’t have time or patience to make everybody happy nor is it my job. All I can do is do my best to be the best person that I can and hope that that’s good enough for everyone.
4. Your mental health matters.
This year I turned 27. Over the last year, I realized how much mental health matters. I realized how much better of a person I’ve become after I started paying more attention to my mental health. In our society, especially in the black community, there’s a stigma surrounding mental health. You’re seen as weak or less than if you seek counseling to better yourself. This year I realized how false that really is. Going to therapy is the best thing that I could have ever done. It’s helped me to change things about myself and to realize that some major changes needed to be made in order to live my best life. If you’re reading this because you want to know how to live your best life, seriously consider therapy.
5. Wear what makes you happy.
As a mom, I’ve learned to embrace my body. I’ve birthed two children. I am thoroughly aware that I’m not going to have the same body that I did at 19 but I’m also aware that I can still be a confident, hot mama. Wear what makes you happy and keep your head high when you’re walking in these streets. Converse shoes are something that I love. I’ve worn them since I was a kid and I’ve passed my love on to Tatiana. I can leave my house in them knowing that I look good. When you’re picking out your looks, stick to timeless pieces that you love and that you feel the most comfortable in.
6. Dance like no ones watching.
Stop caring what other people think. Be comfortable in your own skin and do you, unapologetically.
7. Be true to yourself.
Never, ever ever change who you are for someone else.
8. Hold yourself accountable.
Your best accountability partner is yourself. Keep yourself accountable for all of your goals. If that fails, find a good tribe that can keep you together.
9. Don’t allow negative Nancy’s in your circle.
Kick the negative and toxic people to the curb. There’s one thing that I don’t allow in my circle or in my life period. If anyone has something negative to say and you feel like it keeps you down, let them go. There’s no possible way that you can live your best life with negative people in your life.
10. Remember that you’re doing the best that you can.
Mama, you’re making it. Every day won’t be perfect. There are going to be days when you just feel like you’ve completely lost your mind but you’re doing the best you can. Take a deep breath and let it go. Tomorrow is a new day and you can start all over. I try to remind myself of this on bad days. If I can’t let it go, honestly I just take a nap and wake up in a better mood. You can only control certain things but if there’s one thing that I learned in the past year, it’s that life is short. We’ve only got one life to live and we can’t spend our numbered days obsessing over things that we can’t change. Live your life to the fullest.
