Preparing for a new baby whether it’s your first, second, or even third can be quite a task. Your body is changing, you’re getting your home ready to have a little one around and your preparing yourself for the most unpredictable schedule known to mankind. During pregnancy you’re trying to enjoy a magical moment in your life while navigating through morning sickness and all of the other symptoms that come along with pregnancy.

I’m expecting my third baby and getting through this pregnancy is a little bit easier this time around because I know what essentials I want and need to make life easier. When I had my first child, I pretty much improvised everything and went along with advice from others. Some things I had to figure out on my own but with each pregnancy I learned the best pregnancy must haves. If you’re expecting a bundle of joy, these things will help you get through each trimester with ease.

Pregnancy Must Haves

1. Morning sickness remedies

I will be the first person to vouch whole-heartedly for morning sickness remedies. With my first my morning sickness was unbearable. The second time it was nearly non-existent and the third time around it was in between. Each time, however, I had morning sickness remedies on hand just in case. If you’ve never had morning sickness, beware. It doesn’t always affect you in the morning. Sometimes it hits during lunch or even late in the evening. Morning sickness remedies like Preggie Pop Drops or Sea Bands can be super helpful in relieving your nausea. If your nausea gets to be unbearable, speak to your doctor about prescribing something safe for you and baby.

2. Healthy snacks

Your first trimester is when all of the cravings kick in. Be sure to keep healthy snacks on hand at all times to make sure that you’re satisfying your cravings with the healthiest options.

3. Waistband stretcher

Nothing is worse than when all of your pants start to get too tight around your waistline. Waistband stretchers are lifesavers. They can help expand the waistline of your pants so you can get a little extra time with them before you have to start shopping in the maternity section.

4. Prenatal Vitamins

Prenatal vitamins are a non-negotiable essential for both mom and baby. It’s super important that moms take prenatal vitamins throughout their entire pregnancy. It’s even more beneficial to take them for at least 3 months before conceiving and during breastfeeding. Prenatals deliver essential nutrients to both mom and baby.

5. Pregnancy journal

One of the things I wish I would have had for my first two pregnancies was a pregnancy journal. You’re only pregnant with each child once and having a pregnancy journal can help you to remember every kick and memory with your baby in the womb.

6. Body pillow or pregnancy wedge

As your pregnancy progresses sleeping will get increasingly uncomfortable. A body pillow or pregnancy wedge can help you to adjust to a comfortable position that’s safe for you and baby while laying in bed.

7. Water bottle

Did you know that dehydration can sometimes lead to contractions and other complications? A large water bottle that can hold enough water to keep you hydrated throughout the day is a must have. It can be a great reminder of how much water you should be drinking every day.

8. Belly lotion

Stretch marks are something that are sometimes unavoidable but as baby grows in your stomach your skin will start to stretch. Sometimes along with the stretching comes itchiness. A great belly lotion can help relieve the itchiness.

9. Bra extender

A bra extender is quite possibly the neatest invention for pregnant women yet. Your bra size changes during pregnancy more times than you can count. A bra extender can help to extend the size of your current bras to help stretch your dollar further and those bras last longer.

10. Viactiv Calcium Soft Chews

Getting the right amount of calcium during pregnancy is essential for a healthy pregnancy. A growing baby needs the calcium to build a healthy heart, as well as teeth, bones, muscles, and nerves. Most times, a prenatal vitamin just isn’t enough. Many prenatal vitamins provide only 20-30% of the recommended daily amount of calcium for women who are pregnant. 9 out of 10 OB/GYNs recommend Viactiv Calcium Soft Chews during pregnancy*. Adding Viactiv Calcium Soft Chews to your routine can help you get the calcium you need daily. One Viactiv Calcium Soft Chew (650 mg of calcium in each soft chew) taken up to twice daily provides most women with 100% of the daily recommended value of calcium, plus vitamins D and K. Viactiv Calcium Soft Chews are available at major retailers and food stores including Target, Walmart, Rite Aid, and CVS (find a store near you here).

11. Contraction tracker

The third trimester is tricky especially during your first pregnancy. If you’ve never experienced contractions before you may be unsure of what they feel like and how to time them when it’s time for baby. A contraction tracker can help you to time your contractions so that you know when it’s time to head to the hospital.

12. Belly mask

Belly masks are the equivalent to face masks but for your growing belly. They were designed to help hydrate and soothe your tummy.

13. Comfy shoes

As you go through each trimester and baby grows, you’ll want to wear comfier shoes. It’ll get harder to put on shoes with laces, velcro or any sort of fastener. Slip-ons and sandals are the best bet unless you’ve got someone to help you put your shoes on every day.

14. Belly support bands

I discovered belly support bands during my second pregnancy and was so happy when I did. Belly support bands are designed to provide support for your belly and relieve back pressure. They come in handy the further along you get in your pregnancy and the heavier baby gets.

15. Maternity pants

These are the ultimate pregnancy staple. They can get you through your entire pregnancy with comfort. Grab a pair that you can wear over the bump or under the bump.

16. Flowy dresses

Sometimes all you want is a little breathing room. Flowy dresses are versatile and can be styled multiple ways. If you’re wanting to show off your bump, you can use a belt or a scarf to wrap above your bump.

17. Ruched t-shirts

Ruched t-shirts are perfect for showing off your baby bump. They’re typically longer than regular shirts and will cover your bump throughout your pregnancy.

18. Labor/delivery kit

When it’s time for baby to come, you’ll want to bring all of your favorite must haves with you to the hospital. Creating a labor/delivery kit filled with some essentials like a nursing bra, non-skid socks, and your favorite water bottle will make you feel at home during your stay.
