This year I went to my very first BlogHer conference. It seems to be the year of conferences. After Tristan I decided to cancel all of my conferences but since I went to Mom 2.0, I decided to push my self to BlogHer and I brought my husband with me. I rocked out the first two days by myself but for the last day my amazing husband was right by my side and here’s what happened:
- I introduced him to my blogger friends. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve mentioned my blogger friends to my husband and he’s had no idea who I was talking about no matter how many times he’s heard their names or seen their pictures. I was so happy to introduce him to Brittany, Pamela, and Dani so he could finally put a face to the name.
- He connected with brands. This was probably the most important thing that happened. Usually when we go to professional events, I take the lead and do most of the talking. This time was different and was so amazing. My husband took the lead at BlogHer. He walked the booths, talked to the reps, and asked meaningful questions. I can’t even explain how happy I was that he showed genuine interest when visiting the booths. I think we spent most of our time chatting with the folks from Best Buy, Florida OJ, and Purell. Even after our time talking with the reps and walking through the expo, my husband and I kept the conversation going. We came home and talked about how we could work with the brands that we love.
- We bonded differently. So BlogHer was definitely a business thing but it was fun for us too. It allowed us to bond over blogging and for my husband to get a better understanding of the blogging world. Of course he knows what I do for a living and can accurately describe it but if you asked him to do what I do for a day, I don’t think he would be able to. I think going to BlogHer together gave him a little more insight into the blogging world.
- We found a new staycation spot. BlogHer was at the Hilton Bonnet Creek Resort. We didn’t get a chance to check out the pool or the lazy river but we’ve added it to our list staycation bucket list so we’ll definitely be back with Tatiana.
Our first BlogHer was a success. I will admit that my husband wasn’t up for going at first but when the day came he was ready and willing. I’m pretty sure he enjoyed it too. Hopefully next year he’ll want to go without me having to ask but I won’t get my hopes up.
