Going back to school means getting into a routine. A back to school routine can help keep life simple and organized amidst all the school year chaos. This post is sponsored by Scotties Facial Tissues. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Getting back into a back to school routine can be rough. You’ve just spent two long summer months living your best life and making priceless memories with your kids and now you’re back to early morning wakeup calls, after school sports, and dreaded homework assignments.
With a little patience, structure, and a few simple tips you can smooth out those back to school jitters and ease into a routine.
Tips to Streamline Your Back to School Routine
1. Get back to school shopping done early.
I don’t know about you but I dread shopping for school supplies. We’ve spent hours in the aisles looking for notebooks and binders in the past. This year we decided to do things a little differently from the comfort of our home. We scrolled through T’s school supply list and shopped online. We were able to pick up everything we needed and keep a close eye on our budget. We even picked up a few fun boxes of Scotties Facial Tissues as an added bonus for her class. The back to school themed boxes have designs with encouraging sayings and fun themes.
2. Create a checklist.
Checklists are especially helpful if you have more than one child to get ready for school in the morning or if your child is a Type-A personality. Lists can relieve some of the stress and having to repeat yourself over and over. With a list you’ll have to have a little extra patience and wake up a little earlier to get up so that there’s enough time for your child to walk through their morning list.
3. Start your routine in advance.
We are not early risers in our home so it’s critical that we start getting used to our school schedule a few weeks before the school year actually starts. Typically about two weeks before school begins, T goes back to her regular bedtime schedule. This allows her to adjust so that there’s no whining or whimpering when she has to wake up for school.
4. Get organized.
Organization is key to streamlining your routine. Set up an after school homework station with everything that your kids will need to knock out their homework easily. Think pencils, crayons, glue, rulers – any school supplies your kids will need to be successful. Also think about organizing your refrigerator and pantry for easy lunch planning. Making a menu at the beginning of every week will create structure and allow your family to quickly get things going for your morning routine.
5. Plan outfits ahead of time.
This is one of our biggest time savers. We do laundry once a week at home. While we’re doing our laundry, we take the time to plan all of Tatiana’s outfits ahead of time. We give her the control to pick her own outfits so that she feels like she’s playing a part in having successful days. It’s something that excites her and she’s more confident when she goes to school.
6. Keep the tissues on hand.
If you’re anything like me, you’re going to be somewhere between jumping for joy and cueing the waterworks. Keep Scotties Facial Tissues on hand at home and in your car just in case. Sending your kids back to school can be emotional and quite an adjustment so you want to make sure that you’re prepared.
