Our Teal Bedroom Reveal
This reveal has been a long time coming. The master bedroom is the most sacred place in every home. It’s the place that’s supposed to bring the most peace and since we’ve lived in our new home, our bedroom hasn’t done that for us. It’s been a disheveled, unorganized mess. Once we finally finished a few small projects we were working on in our home like our entryway and family room, we decided to tackle our bedroom next. This would be a larger undertaking since we’d be painting.
Mood Board
When we set out to makeover our room from the drab builder grade room we were given to a peaceful oasis, I had a color scheme in mind. Believe it or not, the entire design for our room was centered around a beautiful teal velvet comforter set that I fell in love with at Target. I originally wanted to go with blush but I knew there was no way my husband was letting me win that battle. Instead I incorporated blush into the color palette as an accent and it worked out so well.
I created this mood board because I’m a super visual person and seeing the vision for our room before we committed to anything was a huge must. The mood board helps us to see how the room will look with the colors and accents we chose. I wanted to incorporate brass into the design as well as white and blush. I pulled inspiration from Pinterest and my favorite interior design stores like Z Gallerie and West Elm.
The Paint
When we moved into our home, the walls were painted with a flat white paint. It was probably the worst paint ever. It picks up every fingerprint and rubs off so easily. Painting was one of the first things I wanted to do but we just never had the time to do it until now. I wanted to stick with white walls but I wanted something with no undertones at all. The white shade the builders chose had yellow undertones and I am not a huge fan of beige/yellow paint at all. I chose BEHR Ultra Pure White as our paint color. My husband thought I was absolutely crazy. What person wants to go from white to white? Only me. He didn’t think it would make a big difference because white is white, right? Not at all.
We used the BEHR Express service through Home Depot and it was one of the easiest processes ever. After a few simple clicks, the paint was at our doorstop with all of the supplies we needed to paint with. Once the paint was on, he saw my vision. The BEHR Ultra Pure White looks so clean and crisp. It made a huge change to our bedroom. It has no undertones and literally is the perfect shade of white for anyone wanting a pure white paint.
The Final Design
The room came out so good! I can’t say enough how much I love the way it came out. There are still a few changes that we’re wanting to make but it came out exactly how I imagined. We’ll be switching out our closet door with a farmhouse style barn door, adding a few wall planters, switching out the photo frame above our bed, and adding a reclaimed wood sign to the wall where the leaner mirror is. We’ll also be upgrading our bed to a king size but we can’t exactly go furniture shopping during this quarantine so we’re holding off for now.
