The Owlet Smart Sock will give parents the added sense of peace they want when bringing a newborn home. I’m sharing an honest owlet smart sock review based on personal experience. The Owlet Smart Sock was gifted to me in exchange for a review but all thoughts and opinions are my own.

A few weeks after we found out we were having another baby, I started researching things for my baby registry. Since it’s been a little while since we’ve been in the market for baby products I wanted to make sure that we were getting only the best for Trevor. Products that were vetted by other parents and had really great reviews were important to me. The Owlet Smart Sock was one of the things at the top of my list. After having a pulse ox at home for Tristan, I knew I needed that added sense of comfort for when we brought home Trevor. The Owlet gave me a sense of peace. It kept me from constantly hovering over my baby and allowed me to rest as well.
Owlet Smart Sock
The Owlet Smart Sock has a couple of different features. It can track your baby’s heart rate and oxygen levels while recording them in the app for safekeeping. What I love about the smart sock is the tracking is beyond amazing. I had a lot of concerns bringing our preemie home and the monitoring allowed me to breathe easy. I could check how long he was sleeping for and how well he was breathing at night. It even tells you how long it takes your baby to fall asleep and how many times they wake-up. I learned a lot about my baby’s sleep patterns through the app. I check it literally every morning when we wake up, since he’s sleeping through the night now, and it has been a huge relief to know that he’s getting a good night’s rest when I am.
In the box you’ll get the smart sock sensor, 3 fabric socks for sizes 0-18 months and up to 25 lbs, a base station, charging cords, along with instructions for downloading the Owlet app. You’ll want to check the weight requirements on each sock before using it with your baby. Trevor was only 4 lbs when he came home and we had to wait a few weeks to use the first sock size since it starts at 6 lbs.
The setup for the sock and the app was simple. I was able to customize the app with my baby’s birthday, photo and name. Once we were able to use the sock I fell in love with it. It was super easy to use. The 18-hour battery life allowed us to use the smart sock most of the day to monitor Trevor.
Live Readings and Alerts
The live readings that are available in the app are amazing. The Smart Sock communicates with the Base Station via bluetooth (with a range of up to 100 ft.) that sends alerts when baby’s oxygen levels drop too low and when their heart rate is off (it may be too high or low). Color coordinated lights and sounds send alerts to your Base Station and phone. When everything is okay, the Base Station glows green to let you know that you can breathe easy.
The alerts from the Base Station are pretty loud which is a huge plus. When we are downstairs and Trevor is in his crib upstairs and the alerts sound off, we can hear them downstairs. If we’re not able to hear the alerts from the Base Station because we’re too far away, we receive them on our phone as well.
One of the bonuses of the smart sock is that you don’t need WiFi to use it. The WiFi in our home has gone out a few times since using the sock and we were still given alerts. WiFi is only necessary for the live readings in the app.
How to Take Care of Your Sock
One of my concerns with the smart sock was how in the world do I wash this thing? I learned quickly that the sensor is removable and the fabric sock is washable. It’s easy to wash by hand. Wash it regularly with a mild detergent to remove any of the muck that your baby manages to get tied up in. I like to use Dr. Bronner’s Unscented Baby Soap to clean the sock. It’s a natural soap with no scent that easily cleans the sock with just a drop of soap.
Owlet Camera
When searching for a baby monitor, we were looking for a few things: quality audio and video, secure WiFi, and an affordable price point. The Owlet camera has some pretty awesome features that make it hard to pass up and comes with a price tag of $149. You can purchase it alone of in a combo with the smart sock. The camera has High-Definition 1080p video that shows super crisp videos of your baby. With the built-in HD night vision, you can keep up with your baby even when it’s dark. The room temperature sensor is by far my favorite feature of the camera. My husband typically likes to keep it cold in our home and the sensor allows me to monitor whether the room is too cold or not.
Cost
The smart sock alone costs $299. It’s well worth the price. If you’re wanting to get the sock and camera combo, it costs $399. The fabric socks come in 4 different designs and when checking out online, you can pick your sock design. Every Owlet comes with a 45-Night Peace of Mind Guarantee which I think is absolutely amazing! How many times have you bought the latest tech product for your kids and been completely overwhelmed only to find that you’re stuck with it after purchasing? With Owlet, you don’t have to worry about that. I’m pretty sure you won’t even need the guarantee because you’ll love the Owlet as much as we do but if for some reason you’re not crazy about it, you can return it within 45 days.
Where to Buy
You can find the Owlet in most retail stores but I highly suggest purchasing it from somewhere that’ll give you perks since it’s a higher ticket item. Consider a store like Best Buy where you can get reward points for shopping. Shopping online so you can receive cash back is an option too. You can find all of the retail stores that carry the Owlet in stores and online here.
