I can’t believe my little girl is 13! It seems like just yesterday that we were celebrating her coming into the world. 13 is such a huge milestone. When she told me what she wanted the theme for this party to be, I was so shocked. It’s such a retro theme and definitely a nostalgic one for me. She loves all things 90s so this theme is definitely right up her alley. A Fresh Prince of Bel-Air themed party is definitely cool.
How to Bring a Fresh Prince Party Theme to Life
I searched for inspiration online when planning her party and I honestly couldn’t find anything that I was in love with. So I hit the ground running with creating as much as I could from scratch while using some images that I purchased online from Etsy. I love keeping things fun and colorful plus the logo for the show is colorful as well. The font was a must when creating the invitations and graphics.
Birthday Party Decor
The color scheme of this party was my signature bright and colorful vibe. I used the Fresh Prince logo colors as the main colors for the party and added a few complimentary colors in there. Here’s the mood board I put together for the party. Honestly the colors came together beautifully, and I’m happy I was able to incorporate blue into the color scheme. It’s Tatiana’s favorite color.
I wanted to use arches for this party but we gave away the wooden arches that we used for Trevor’s monster truck birthday party. We wanted to build new ones but didn’t get to do that in time for this party since we planned this in about 3 weeks. So this time around I opted for these gold metal arches from Amazon. They worked out really well. The only thing that I would say is that I don’t think they’re great for outdoor use especially on windy days. They aren’t as heavy as the wooden arches and even with weights holding them down, they can still fall over.
The setup you see in the pictures here are actually a reproduction of the actual party. The day of the party I was super sick which resulted in us forgetting some things at home and not getting to take pictures. I set up everything at home once I was better and got some pictures.
Anyways, we had the actual party at a park and not our backyard. They had picnic tables which we set up the blue tablecloths on. We used the foam board cutouts as table centerpieces. If you’re going to use foam board cutouts, you want to make sure that you have some sort of paper weight to weigh them down. I wanted to incorporate florals into the tablescape but that’s not my daughter’s thing so I skipped the flowers and stuck to the foam board cutouts.
I created this birthday banner in Canva then cut it out with my Cricut using the “print then cut” feature. You can definitely just print it out on your printer then cut it out by hand. It’s actually a great task to delegate if you’re needing help. I used a regular hole puncher to cut the holes to string the ribbon through.
All of the supplies for the table settings came from either Walmart or Dollar Tree. For an extra customized touch, you could customize the napkins with this easy DIY.
Where to Buy Fresh Prince Party Theme Supplies
There’s a couple of different options when it comes to buying party supplies. There aren’t that many Fresh Prince Party supplies out there but we were able to grab these jerseys from Amazon and the logo from Etsy. Other than that, everything else was DIYd or I bought 90s inspired decor to coordinate with the theme. Pretty much everything I used is linked here and of course you can customize things to match your theme colors. If you have a Cricut or Glowforge, you can definitely take the party up a notch by creating tons of customized pieces for the party.
I shopped mostly on Amazon and at my usual craft spots like Hobby Lobby, Michaels and JoAnn. I tried to use a lot of things that I already had to cut down on costs. The budget for this party was a strict $500 and I did pretty well coming in just under that. I tried to stick to the party color scheme when buying the party decor. Hobby Lobby always has great deals on their party decor. They’ll typically have things like plates, napkins, forks, and tablecloths for 50% off.

We couldn’t throw a party without a welcome sign. I made this one in Canva along with the foam board cutouts. Then I printed them out at CVS using a 50% off coupon to stay within budget. I ended up getting 3 24×36 posters for $30. Each poster had multiple images in different sizes. I cut each image out using an xacto knife and used spray adhesive to adhere each image to the foam board.
Party Favor Ideas
The toughest part about planning this party was finding the perfect party favors for a bunch of teens. I typically like to have party favors that I know are going to be used. I’m honestly not a huge fan of candy as party favors. However, I made an exception this time. I was on a time crunch putting this party together plus I wasn’t feeling too great once I came back from a work trip just a few days before the party. Most teens love candy so it was the perfect party favor and it was cost effective. I found the cutest little boombox party favor boxes from Amazon for the candy. They were super easy to put together plus we had extra boxes left over for our next 90s shindig. It was a bonus that the box colors matched the theme.

This party was on the smaller side of parties we’ve had so it was way easier to stay within budget. We had about 30 guests at the party including family and parents who joined us. Keeping the food simple was a huge help with staying in budget. We served burgers, hot dogs, chips and cookies along with water and juice pouches. The kids loved it and most importantly, everyone was happy.
