How many of you have seen a Dad in your life go days or even weeks without taking a day for self care? Growing up and even in my adult life I’ve watched uncles, my Dad, and now my husband skimp on self care. For men it seems to be that self care isn’t a thing but guess what? Self care for Dads is as important as it is for Moms. Without taking out that needed time to regroup it’s hard to function properly. Dads are typically seen as the head of the household so it’s time we change the narrative and make self care a priority for Dad too.
This Father’s Day we’re giving Dad a little extra push by creating a self care kit filled with everything he needs to enjoy a day to himself.
How to Create a Self Care Kit for Dads
1. Find a container that Dad can reuse
The first step to creating a self care kit for Dad is to find something that he can reuse to put the kit supplies in. We used this fun basket with phrases for Dad written all over it that he can use as storage in his man cave.
2. Think about what he loves to do
One of the things my husband loves to do is travel, get active with the kids, lounge around the house. When deciding what to put in his self care kit we kept that in mind. We thought about things that would work well for both traveling and lounging while staying within our budget.
3. Include his favorite scent in the self care kit for Dad
Every year for Father’s Day we gift my husband with his favorite cologne, Nautica Blue from Walgreens. Since he’s the anchor of our family it’s the perfect choice for him. The crisp, energetic and timeless fragrance is great for day and night plus it compliments his personality. I love smelling the fresh scent! The notes of jasmine and sandalwood are my favorite.
4. Add a personal touch
A gift isn’t complete without a personal touch. There’s nothing better than a DIY gift from the kids. Usually we do a handwritten card or a piece of artwork from the kids but this year we did something a little different. We chose to create a memory book with photos of my husband and the kids throughout the years. A memory book is a great addition to a self care kit because it not only reminds you of all the great memories but shows you everything you have to be grateful for.
5. Don’t forget his favorite snacks
Every Dad loves snacks! Most of the time Dad doesn’t get to eat his snacks in peace without having to share. Since we’re encouraging Dad to get a little time to his self, we included his favorite snacks in the kit so that he can enjoy them all by himself.
