Raising a daughter is no easy task. Raising a daughter to be strong, confident, and independent is even harder. We live in a world where society judges women at every turn so it’s very important for me to teach Tatiana how to be herself and not hold back.
Today, I’m partnering with Dove to share how Dove has influenced my life and the women in my circle. I asked a few of the women in my family and my best girlfriends from to answer a few questions and these were their answers:
How did you instill body positivity in me growing up?
I always tried to be positive about my appearance when in your presence. Confidence is not something that any of the women in our lives lack. Every single woman who surrounds us is confident in who they are and are comfortable with their bodies. I always tried to stress being healthy rather than being skinny because your health and how you feel about your body is more important. As long as you are happy and healthy that’s all that mattered.
How did you inspire me to reach my personal well-being goals?
One of the things that we always instilled in you was taking care of yourself. When you look good, you feel good. We always encouraged you to do what made you feel best and allowed you to experiment with makeup, hair, and all things beauty. Our goal was to help you
How did you help me find my inner beauty?
We didn’t. We were really lucky with this one because growing up you were always in tune with your inner self. You always exuded kindness and caring for others even when you didn’t notice it. You were always willing to give and help others in their time of need. There were times of course when we had to steer you in the right direction and give you a little advice with some things you were struggling with, but your inner beauty always shined brightly.
What’s the most important piece of advice you have for me while instilling these values with my daughter?
Let her discover who she is and encourage her to challenge herself by trying things outside of her comfort zone.
How have these values changed over time when you were growing up?
These values haven’t changed at all. If anything they are more prominent because of the internet and social media but the values are still the same.
What is some beauty advice that your mom gave you?
The beauty that comes first is the beauty on the inside. Outer beauty will follow.
Dove products have always been a staple in my household growing up and now that I’m raising my own daughter, their products continue to be a staple. We’ve always used their body products. My favorite is the Dove White Beauty Bar but Tatiana loves the Deep Moisture Body Wash. I love the Dove Beauty Bar because I prefer the lather that it gives. The body wash is easy for Tatiana to manage and she can monitor the amount she’s using. To be honest, she gets a little carried away with the beauty bar and always uses it all. I’m so happy that at such an early age she’s learned that it’s ok to have her own personal preferences.
Tatiana started using deodorant a few months ago. It’s crazy because she’s only 5 but I’ve finally given in to the fact that it’s just something that she needs. In the beginning, I would just share my Dove Advanced Care Original Clean Deodorant with her but now she gets her own. The formula has never changed in 60 years and it’s gentle enough for her skin. As soon as Tatiana started using this deodorant I noticed something instantly changed. She seemed more confident. She was no longer afraid to get sweaty while playing because she knew that she was wearing deodorant. Now she makes sure to incorporate her deodorant into her daily routine.
Dove Nutritive Solutions Daily Moisture Shampoo is one product that even my husband loves! We recently started using this and haven’t turned to anything else since. It’s gentle enough to use every day and keeps our hair moisturized.
Do you use any Dove products that are generational staples in household? If not, you can stock up on our favorite products at your local Walmart.
