When I first found out we were having a girl, I almost cried. I almost cried because I wanted my first born to be a boy. In my mind, the idea of having a boy first and a girl second was ideal. He would be the protector. Honestly looking back, that’s not the real reason that I almost cried that day. I almost cried because I knew what I was in for.

As a kid, I was a handful. A handful with a lot of hair. I remember the days of my sister combing my hair every Sunday before the school week started and how much I would cry because I was so tender headed. Getting my hair done was the worst part of the week. Every week I dreaded sitting on the floor for hours while my hair was done.

When I became a mom to a girl with a head full of natural I was determined to make hair wash day something that wasn’t dreaded in our home. I succeeded when Tatiana was a baby. As she got older that changed. Her attitude changed, her attention span changed and so did her hair texture. I had to find a quick and easy kids natural hairstyle that worked for us.

Our Favorite Quick and Easy Kids Natural Hairstyle

I like to call this style a 2-strand twist half updo. It’s like the perfect combination of wearing your hair up and down. Literally the best of both worlds. T loves wearing her hair out but it’s not the most realistic. I love twist outs, braided styles and bantu knots because they’re simple and keeps her hair up and out of the way. This hairstyle is the best of both worlds. It’s two 2-strand twists at the top with a twist out in the back that I had taken out for her to wear her hair the way she loves.

Simple Steps to Achieve This Style

  1. Part the hair in 3 parts.
  2. Place two rubberbands in the top to parts to secure the ponytails.
  3. Twist both ponytails into 2-strand twists and secure the bottoms with another rubberband.
  4. Take each twist and secure it behind the other with bobby pins.
  5. For the bottom section, twist the hair into 2-strand twists and let air dry overnight.
  6. The next day, undo the twists.
