Sometimes, you have to step outside of the box and do something that’s unexpected. We went to our first Orlando Solar Bears Hockey game over the weekend. Actually, this was our first hockey game ever. Before this game, I knew nothing about hockey. Tatiana knew nothing about hockey. My husband knew a little about the game and was able to talk us through it. The game was interesting. It’s intense. It’s not as intense as you see on tv, or at least this game wasn’t, but brace yourselves if you’re kids have never seen a fight in real life.
We had some pretty good seats for the game, a few rows behind the penalty boxes, so we were able to see all of the action. If you’ve never been to a hockey game, let me prepare you with a few simple things you need to know before you go to your first game.
The game is 2.5 hours long. There are three 20-minute periods with 15-minute intermissions in between. During each intermission, they have fun activities to keep the crowd going. Similar to other sports games, there’s a bunch of places to get snacks and drinks from during intermissions. If you don’t want to leave your seat during the game there’s someone walking around selling drinks as well. The fighting is real or at least I’m pretty sure it is. If you’ve ever seen hockey on tv, that’s a pretty accurate depiction. Players are moving quickly up and down the ice, and constantly being slammed against the walls. Sometimes they get angry and the fists start flying. Be prepared to see a fight and know how to explain it to your kids.
Even with the fighting, we had a great time and would go back again. The other families there seemed to love it too. It’s definitely a fun family date night activity and an affordable one too.
One of the things that I love about the Orlando Solar Bears Hockey team is their involvement in our community. They have a handful of perks and programs that benefit their community including their Kid Captains Program, Loyalty & Rewards Program, Stick to Reading program and so much more. You can find more info about the team and their schedule here. Single game tickets start at just $12. Take your kids to their first hockey game and experience something new.
Thank you to the Orlando Solar Bears Hockey team for providing us with tickets for this game. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
