Fort Frederica is one site that you must visit during your trip to St. Simons Island, Georgia.
Exploring Fort Frederica in St. Simons Island
Fort Frederica is one of the oldest settlements in America, established in 1736 by General James Oglethorpe to protect Savannah and the Carolinas from Spain. During our stay at The King and Prince Beach & Golf Resort, we got to visit the fort and it was nothing short of amazing. I really love history, so visiting this historic military outpost was definitely a must while we were on vacation. When we first arrived at Fort Frederica, we watched a short film about the history of old military outpost. It was very educational and helped to give insight on what we were about to see. The tour of the fort was self guided which was great. It allowed us to take our time walking the grounds and taking in all of the history. We were also able to take lots of pictures.
Tatiana had so much fun navigating us through the old post using her map. I would definitely recommend Fort Frederica to anyone who is visiting the island. It’s a great place to give your kids a history lesson and spend a day with your family.
Fort Frederica is open seven days a week (closed on national holidays) from 9:00am-5:00pm. Be sure to add it to your list of things to do the next time you’re in St. Simons Island. You’ll enjoy it as much as we did!
